Traesnes Gard is the first official Winery in Norway, a migrating typology due to climate change resulting in milder conditions to cultivate appropriate grapes in this historically cold environment. The brief asked us to rehabilitate the 150 year-old red barn on the site and join it with a new addition, whcih was required to be conceived in concrete to provide a durable production space. The new addition grows from perviously constructed concrete alterations within the existing barn and gains its autonomy as a mass. Between the client’s house (white building), the barn and the new addition, there is a desired kinship. While materially apart, formally they remain in a tight range of affinity. All seperate yet all together. The modest size facility will provide space for wine production ,storage,a wine shop and an event space.
